Mikayla has had a love for music since she was a young child. She started getting more serious about music at age 11, when she took on the violin. She took private violin lessons through middle school, high school, and college. She had the opportunity to take private viola lessons for a semester in college as well. Mikayla graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Brigham Young University-Idaho in April, 2020. She was taught by Dr. Dallin Hansen, Jennifer Berg, Rick Hansen, Tracy Davis and many others. She is currently living in the Cincinnati, Ohio area with her husband and 2 children.
Mikayla specifically focused on pedagogy classes throughout her college years and has been certified in Suzuki book one, but teaches all of the books. Mikayla has been teaching violin and viola for 9 years and has taught over 60 students of all ages and levels. Mikayla incorporates music theory and music history into her lesson teaching as well. Of all of her musical talents, teaching private lessons is Mikayla’s favorite thing! She enjoys sharing her love of music with others and truly loves to watch students progress.
Mikayla also performs in symphonies, quartets and as a soloist. During her senior year of high school, Mikayla had the opportunity to sit as the concert master in the symphony. She had the opportunity to perform Vivaldi and Mozart concertos with the orchestra. Throughout college, she had the opportunity to be in multiple chamber groups including duets, quartets, and octets. Mikayla performed in the BYU-Idaho Symphony for four years, was a member of the Rosined string quartet for two years, has played as a soloist in many different settings and groups, and she is currently a member of the Mason Symphony Orchestra.
Testimonials
Ana Coon, Student
“I’ve improved more in the past nine months than I ever thought I was capable of, thanks to Mrs. Carey’s lessons. Before, seeing a few sixteenth notes scared me off; now I am playing and learning thirty-second note runs and complex pieces, something I never thought I could say I would be able to do.”

“One thing that I love about having Mikayla as my teacher was that she made me feel comfortable to make mistakes around her as I was playing. This was a big help when it came to auditions because you have to make mistakes to learn. When I made those mistakes, she went through the music with me and made sure I could fix my errors and move on to perfect the piece. After every lesson I walked out with a smile on my face because she always put me in a good mood!“

“My daughter really needed private lessons to supplement her school orchestra program. Mikayla Carey has proven to be such a supportive person and my child thrives in the weekly lessons. Mikayla is a stellar musician and professional and engages my daughter in many ways. We are so pleased to have found her!”
